Recently read a book by HBR titled - "Crafting your purpose" By John Coleman
In life often we wonder, on why we do what we do. In this book author tries to give some pointers on how to organize yourself and organization around purpose.
First step is dispelling some myths.
Myth #1 - Purpose is something we find. Instead purpose is actively seeked and crafted.
Myth #2 - Purpose is a single thing. Instead it is plural. Flourishing people find meaning in anything they do.
Myth #3 - Purpose is static. As life is ever evolving, you will find different things giving meaning to you.
There are 4 ways to shape your purpose
1. Craft your work. Adapt your job to make it more meaningful.
2. Make work a craft. Taking pride in the excellence of a job well done and becoming an expert in whatever we do.
3. Connect your work to service. Find out who is benefiting from your work
4. Invest in positve relationships. Those who live life enmeshed in a series of positive relationships are more fulfilled and purposeful.
